Finding my direction took time.
Hey, I am Jason! Great to meet you!
If you have landed here, you want to gain more insight into who I am. I am often curious about others, especially with something as personal as therapy. So let me start with this!
I include this to add vulnerability, as some therapists’ bios can be stale. I want you to feel comfortable and know that we must have a strong relationship for therapy to be effective.
Another reason I added a picture of myself as a teenager was to take a risk. Maybe you think it’s courageous, or perhaps you think it’s awkward. I am okay with whatever you think, and the point is that if I ask you to trust me with some of the most challenging moments in your life, I am easy to talk to and relatable.
Now let’s go a little deeper.
How do you want to spend your life?
I first got into this work because I struggled with my self-worth while growing up and didn’t have much of a personal identity. I looked in the wrong places and cared about the wrong things.
Struggles like this are a considerable challenge for a lot of people. Sometimes life happens, and we get stuck doing things we don’t want to, or sometimes we have no clue what we want to do in the first place. For people who love what they are doing, it makes them feel alive, and it becomes much easier to work through past issues.
Around the time I turned 20, I started to ask myself the bigger question of how I wanted to spend my life. I decided the best way to answer was to see the world.
On a trip to New Zealand, I decided it would be a life worth living if I could give back to the world meaningfully. It may sound cliché, but it’s my story. I am curious about what your story could be?
Psychology and the outdoors are my passions.
Once I returned from New Zealand, I declared a major in Psychology. I also love the outdoors and declared a second major in outdoor leadership.
That first summer, I worked as a residential aid at a drug rehab center working for a Native American tribe. It turned out to be challenging but also rewarding. At the end of the summer, several clients approached me and said they appreciated how easy I was to talk to and felt I was a solid listener. One of the clients even said I made a more significant difference in their life than their primary therapist.
After that, I became hooked! Since then, I have worked in various positions in Wilderness Therapy, as a Behavioral Specialist within the school district, and in a group therapy practice before I launched Adventurous Healing.
I am so grateful to stand before you, loving what I do. It is never too late to follow your true path. I have learned much and want to share that with you.
If you still want to learn more, here is another page that describes how I work if you are curious. I also have a page about online therapy telling what you can expect from our work together.
